The Lift Assist Unit (LAU) is an intelligent device that controls luggage bin deployment and provides force to help close the overhead bins. With our LAUs, even heavy bins are easy for crew and passengers to operate. The LAU measures, calculates, and decides autonomously under all payload conditions when assisting force is required. Delivery of the lifting force is immediate, smooth, and noiseless. The force-assist effect is remarkable; fully loaded and empty bins open at the same speed. Crew and passengers can effortlessly open empty bins.

Electronic features with minimal power consumption

Electrical power is only required to operate the integrated microelectronics; power consumption is minimal, as the mechanical coil spring generates the required assisting force. An integrated LED system provides optimal support for the initial installation and for troubleshooting. After use, it simply switches off.

Mounting hardware for hydraulic dampers

Hydraulic dampers require strong, intelligent mounting hardware that enables a quick release. This allows luggage bins to be rapidly repaired or replaced. That’s the advantage of our unique mounting element. The respective luggage bin can be separated from the hydraulic damper with just a few motions. Replacing it is just as easy—just snap it into place, and you’re good to go.

Unparalleled safety

The electronic version of the latch not only securely closes luggage bins, it also allows the flight crew to see whether all bins are truly closed. A green or red light in the luggage bin opener displays its status. If the E-Latches are integrated into the cabin management system, all the crew has to do is take a glance at the flight attendant panel. From the attendant panel, the crew can monitor bin status and lock bins during take-off. 

Significant space and weight savings

Compared to conventional mechanical systems, installing E-Latches reduces weight by nearly 50 %. Since the E-Latch cables run inside the frame of the luggage bin, they also require significantly less space to install. Passengers will be pleased to have more space for their luggage.

The cables of the E-Latches are flexible and they also enable attractive LED lighting designs. This opens the door to an entire range of new options for designers. Now you can choose any position and size for the luggage bin openers and create innovative cabin lighting accents.
